Dr. John Huckerby is an energy industry consultant with 33+ years’ experience of working on renewable energy and fossil fuel projects. He has provided consulting services to Governments and private companies in the United States, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom and served on a range of advisory boards.
John was Chairman of the Executive of the International Energy Agency’s Ocean Energy Systems Implementing Agreement (OES) for four years (2009 – 2012) and was its New Zealand representative from 2006 to 2013. During his time as Chairman John led the renewal of OES’s mandate with the IEA, oversaw the renewal of its brand and published its first “International Vision for Ocean Energy”.
From 2009 – 2011 John was a Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) “Special Report on Renewable Energy Resources and Climate Change Mitigation”, published in June 2011. Formerly he was a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand’s President’s Panel for Energy.
In New Zealand he was the founder of the Aotearoa Wave and Tidal Energy Association (AWATEA), an ocean energy industry association formed in April 2006. He was Executive Officer from its inception until the middle of 2013.
John is also the director of Power Projects Limited, an energy industry consultancy, with a focus on renewable energy, particularly ocean energy. Power Projects Limited was a co-founder and developer of the Wave Energy Technology – New Zealand (WET-NZ) wave energy converter, two of which were deployed in New Zealand and Oregon in 2012.
