Technologies getting wet: Wave | DAY 2 | 3:10-4:25pm

Luís Gato (Principal Researcher) is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, holds a first degree and a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, from IST (Title of doctoral thesis: Aerodynamics of a Self-rectifying Turbine for Wave Energy Utilization, 1989). His main areas of research are Wave Energy, Turbomachinery, and Fluid Mechanics. He has 30 years of experience in wave energy, especially in the development of mechanical equipment (air turbines) and its control. He played a leading role in the development and design of the mechanical equipment for the Pico plant, and in the development of the air turbines in the European projects CORES, OPERA and WETFEET. He participated in 14 European projects in the area of wave energy and he has published over 40 papers in international journals.
